Gas piping that serves heating gas appliances is also permitted to serve cooling equipment because both types of appliances may share the same fuel source without causing safety issues or operational conflicts. This is particularly true for certain types of gas-powered cooling systems, like those using gas to power absorption chillers. These systems rely on gas as their fuel source, making it efficient to have them connected to the same gas piping that serves heating appliances.

In contrast, electrical devices do not operate on gas and would require a separate electrical connection, not gas piping. Hot water heaters typically fall under a separate category, especially if they are powered by gas; they might have specific requirements ensuring they have dedicated gas supplies, depending on local codes. Refrigeration units can also be gas-powered, but they often operate under different considerations concerning refrigerants, gas types, and specific installation codes, which may necessitate their own piping and safety measures.

Therefore, the allowance for gas piping to serve both heating gas appliances and cooling equipment maximizes efficiency in installations where applicable, adhering to safety and regulatory standards.
